From Sea to CEO

Welcome to Kaptein Coffee

Hello, I'm Scott, founder of Kaptein Coffee.

My journey into entrepreneurship started far from any office or business school—it began at age 12, on a commercial fishing boat headed for the rugged waters of Alaska. Each summer, I left Seattle behind and stepped into a world defined by grit, risk, and hard-earned reward. Looking back, it’s hard to believe my parents let me go—but those early experiences taught me the value of resilience, work ethic, and chasing something bigger than myself.

After high school, I dove straight into king crab fishing on the Bering Sea during its boom years—a modern-day gold rush. The work was brutal and dangerous, but it was real. I became a captain at 21, leading crews through some of the world’s most treacherous waters. And during the long hours at the helm, I found myself dreaming—jotting down business ideas in a notebook I kept in the wheelhouse.

By 32, I made the toughest call of my life: leaving behind a successful fishing career to pursue entrepreneurship full-time. Since then, I’ve founded several companies across a range of industries—Seaclear Industries, Cannery Connection, Frattura Glass Fabricators, Led-Fret, Moebeck Limousine, Promotional Dynamics, Kaptein Chocolate, and of course, Kaptein Coffee. Every one of them started the same way: with an idea, some grit, and a willingness to learn.

When I started Seaclear, I didn’t even know how to cut glass. Today, we serve customers in nearly every country around the world. That’s the essence of building something from the ground up: you don’t need to know it all from day one. If you have the energy, the drive, and the spirit—expertise will follow.

Kaptein Coffee was born from that same mindset. One late night, while helping a friend brainstorm ideas, I looked down at the cup in my hand and realized coffee had been with me through it all. Through the storms, the triumphs, the setbacks—it was a constant. That night, I stayed up sketching the blueprint for what would become this brand.

I didn’t know the first thing about coffee—but that’s exactly what excited me. The unknown doesn’t intimidate me. It inspires me. Because entrepreneurship isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about having the courage to start, the resilience to adapt, and the fire to keep going.

Kaptein Coffee is a tribute to that mindset. It’s for the doers—the builders, the dreamers, the ones who rise early and stay late. Whether you work with your hands or your head, this coffee is for those who put in the effort and keep chasing what’s next.

So, here’s to bold beginnings, to those who grind with purpose, and to the coffee that fuels the journey.
