From Sea to CEO

Welcome to Kaptein Coffee

Hello, I'm Scott, the guy behind Kaptein Coffee. My entrepreneurial journey kicked off at the age of 12 when I decided commercial fishing was the adventure I needed. Every summer, I'd hop on the neighbor's fishing boat and sail off to the wilds of Alaska. Looking back, it's astonishing my parents let me embark on such daring escapades. But it was there, amidst the rugged beauty and relentless challenges, that I discovered my true passion for hard work and innovation.

Those early experiences shaped my character and ignited a spark that would one day lead to the creation of Kaptein Coffee.

After high school, much to my mother’s dismay, I plunged headfirst into king crab fishing on the Bering Sea. I was fortunate enough to be part of the "boom years," a time that felt like a modern-day gold rush meeting the Wild West. The work was grueling and dangerous, but the rewards were worth the risk. Deckhands could make six figures in just a few months. I quickly climbed the ranks and became a captain at 21.

As a captain, I had plenty of hours at the helm to dream up ideas and inventions, often scribbling them down in a notebook I kept in the wheelhouse. While I started a few companies during my fishing days, I wanted to dive into entrepreneurship full-time. By 32, I swapped the high seas for the high stakes of entrepreneurship. Leaving my fishing career was tough, but I had to chase my dreams.

I've founded a handful of companies over the years, including Seaclear Industries, Cannery Connection, Frattura Glass Fabricators, Led-Fret, Moebeck Limousine, Promotional Dynamics, Kaptein Chocolate, and of course, Kaptein Coffee.

When I get an idea, I understand the importance of moving quickly from concept to action. I’ve always believed in seizing opportunities and turning visions into reality. My early experiences in the demanding world of commercial fishing instilled a strong work ethic in me, and I have great respect for anyone who pursues their goals with determination and perseverance.

Taking a sip of Kaptein isn't just about the coffee; it's about sharing a piece of my journey. I'm often asked why I started a coffee company. One evening, while working late (ironically, I had been asked to come up with a business idea for a friend of mine), I was drinking a cup of coffee and realized it had been my lifelong companion. Through the highs and lows, coffee was always there, providing comfort and energy. That night, inspiration struck like a bolt of lightning, and I stayed up all night penciling out a plan.

Moments like this separate the dreamers from the doers. It was in that quiet, caffeine-fueled moment that I felt a surge of passion and clarity. I knew that my love for coffee wasn't just about the drink itself, but about the sense of possibility and the drive it instilled in me. Coffee had been with me through every challenge and triumph, and I wanted to share that same experience with others.

Starting Kaptein Coffee was about more than just creating another business. It was about capturing that essence of perseverance and passion and offering it to those who grind every day, whether in blue-collar or white-collar worlds. It's about honoring the spirit of hard work and the simple pleasure of a well-brewed cup, a companion in the journey of life.

So, here’s to the moments of inspiration and the fuel that keeps us moving. Here's to Kaptein Coffee, born from a night of dreams and determination. Cheers to the grind!
