From sea to business, Scott's journey fuels innovation. Inspired by coffee's role at sea, he founded Kaptein Coffee.
Scott Sperbeck
Scott Sperbeck began commercial fishing at age 12 with his childhood neighbor. He would spend his summers fishing in Alaska, and then come Fall, would fish for salmon and crab in the Puget Sound.
After graduating from high school, Scott began fishing for crab on the Bering Sea. He quickly became the vessel's engineer, and then became captain at age 23. His entrepreneurial spirit led to his first business venture “Cannery Connection”, a guide to landing cannery and fishing jobs in Alaska.
During a winter storm in 1987, fighting to see out the iced-up pilothouse windows, an idea came to Scott. Using his mechanical background, he designed and patented an electrically heated film that prevents windows from icing or fogging up at sea. The result was the birth of Scott's company Seaclear Industries. Seaclear has been producing heated film and window products for over 30 years. Scott also is founder and president of Frattura Glass Laminators, a high-end glass fabricator, and LedFret, guitar accessories.

In a mere two years, Kaptein Coffee, born from the collaboration of Scott and Jake, has surpassed all expectations, experiencing a surge in growth that has left industry insiders astounded. As the company continues to evolve and adapt to the ever-changing market landscape, the necessity for a realignment of roles has become apparent. In response to this imperative, Scott has assumed an elevated leadership position, drawing upon his extensive entrepreneurial expertise and strategic vision to chart Kaptein Coffee's course into the future. While Jake has transitioned away from the company, his foundational contributions remain integral to its early success and enduring legacy. Throughout this period of transition, the enduring friendship between Scott and Jake serves as a testament to the values of excellence and collaboration that underpin Kaptein Coffee's continued success.
